Hi!
This is an 8-week William Morris Art Topic pack that has a full term of discreet lessons that build on previous skills learned.
In this pack, there is a teaching PowerPoint, along with handouts for lesson that require them, 2 fonts for editing and
There are scanned-in examples of what the work is supposed to look like for many of the lessons and the hand-outs that I used are also provided.
The lessons include: lino printing, pattern replication and research tasks for artist style and background exploration.
Help your children to improve their descriptions and narratives by using these colour vocabulary sheets in your literacy lessons or on display. They equip pupils with exciting words for ‘red’, ‘blue’, ‘green’ and everything in between!
I have been using these colour thesauruses as part of a Writing Toolkit (coming soon!) that I give to my class at the start of the school year. After modelling how to use them in writing, the children then independently use stronger, more effective colour descriptives when describing settings or characters- I even see them cropping up in their speech!
BOTH SPELLINGS OF COLOR/COLOUR INCLUDED!
Included in this download:
A display poster and pocket-sized version of the color vocabulary grid
PDF versions of the resources
.docx Word versions of the resources for editing purposes
2 fonts to edit your resources with
UK/AU/NZ/CA version using ‘colour’ spelling
Looking for the full Writing Toolkit? Due to be completed by September 1st 2020
I hope this product saves you time and stress,
Happy Teaching!
Miss Austin

This pack includes a prescriptive powerpoint in the style of William Morris and outlines 5 lessons (so far) on William Morris and his style. This resource will be being updated with more lessons as this term goes on as I'm currently teaching this.
I also included pictures of my sketchbook on the slides to aid in explaining what to achieve.
lesson 1 and 2- create artist page (double page spread) on William Morris through research
lesson 3- replicate his style in sketches of tiles of his work
lesson 4- create a mood board- what does his art make you feel?
lesson 5- create a swatch book of colours he uses in his artwork
Week 3 of 6- A no-prep lesson that explores sketching and shading techniques whilst drawing natural objects from observation. Children in grades 1-3 will learn to critique peer’s artwork kindly and use high-level artistic vocabulary to describe their own work. A perfect art unit for Autumn, Spring or Summer!
This product contains a 16-slide Teaching PowerPoint that guides students through developing a sketching technique whilst looking at the definitions of topical vocabulary such as line, shape, texture, pattern, tone and sketch. Using the worksheet provided, children are encouraged to draw natural objects such as leaves or flowers with sketching pencils, using the ‘tickle the spider’ technique explained on the slides. Examples of what work may look like are included.
This activity can be conducted as a class, or in smaller wellbeing groups to work on mindfulness or calming SEN children during the chaos of the school day. The focus is on gaining digital literacy skills, such as photo editing, uploading and downloading images from Google, cutting out images from their backgrounds and arranging them aesthetically.
This lesson is likely to take 1.5-2 hours, and requires the use of natural objects obtained on a nature walk (either in a previous lesson in this unit or at the start of this one!) If you don’t have access to outdoor space for your students, images from online search engines can be used!
This product contains 5 activities, including:
‘What do we remember from last week?’ questioning activity

Children are encouraged to be out in nature, taking photos using these different shots ready for those images to be edited and manipulated when back in class. The Teaching PowerPoints guides children through the use of PicCollage (a free app) to create digital collages.
This activity can be conducted as a class, or in smaller wellbeing groups to work on mindfulness or calming SEN children during the chaos of the school day. Week 5 of 6- A no-prep lesson that explores watercolour, the work of Paul Klee and the art of Hirameki- a Japanese doodle art! Children in years 1-3 will learn how to create a watercolor wash, emulate the work of famous artists and conduct research using internet search engines.
This product contains a 26-slide Teaching PowerPoint that guides students through previous weeks’ learning (colour theory, critiquing peers’ work, photography basics) and develops their understanding of watercolours by looking at the work of Paul Klee and the Japanese art form of Hirameki. Children will be introduced to new vocabulary such as wash, saturation, research, tone and pattern.
This activity can be conducted as a class, or in smaller wellbeing groups to work on mindfulness or calming SEN children during the chaos of the school day. The focus is on the ability to use watercolour paints in addition to improving digital literacy skills, using QR codes to conduct research on the chosen artist.
This lesson is likely to take 2-3 hours, and requires the use of worksheets (included), paintbrushes, watercolor pallets, water pots and pencils for writing. iPads to aid digital research would be beneficial but are not necessary.

This resource gives children the opportunity to show their findings neatly (with sentence starters, word banks and prompts to help guide their writing) and give opinions on the artists’ work.
This resource is re-usable as it’s not artist-specific and gender-neutral pronouns are used. The second version of the artist research page is scaffolded for lower-ability writers.
Included in this download:
3-page PDF for demonstrating knowledge on artists
Word .docx versions of the pages so you can tailor the sheets to your students’ needs

Hi there!
Currently working in a storytelling school that base the whole term around a certain story.
This term we're reading and studying The Prince of Birds. It's a great story and would be a great one to choose as it's a diverse story, has a focus on birds which can be used in art, science and ICT and is set in Spain, which is great for RE, History and Geography.
LO's, success criteria and all resources set out above.
Happy teaching!
Miss Ritchie
